WFIRM Young INvestigator Award Winner - TERMIS 2016 - Alexander M. Tatara is a current MD/PhD dual degree student of the Baylor College of Medicine/Rice University Medical Scientist Training Program. He received in B.S. in Biomedical Engineering from Washington University in St. Louis in 2010. Presently, he is pursuing his PhD in the Department of Bioengineering at Rice University in the laboratory of Dr. Antonios G. Mikos. His research involves leveraging biomaterials to promote wound healing in the setting of large tissue defects and infection. In 2016, Tatara was also named the 2016 Milton Huppert Graduate Student by the Medical Mycological Society of the Americas. He plans to continue to apply bioengineering principles to infectious disease-related problems as a physician scientist.
